Really looking forward to playing this gig on the 4th Feb 2022 supporting The Self Help Group and Seadog…

“Ian Roland played a solo set showcasing songs from his Double Rainbow album from last year. Intricate beautiful 12 String guitar and strong vocals drew in the room and songwriting with a contemporary folk flavour felt current and topical. A great set and a lovely genuine artist.
Credit always goes to a good audience, and last night was wonderful with great friends and first timer Unplugged newbies joining in to listen, appreciate and sing along. The result was a welcome to our musicians that made the night an unforgettable one. Another step to bring live music back to an appreciative listening audience. ” Live at Thornsett Road (LaTR) at Three Hounds Beer Company, Beckenham 17th Nov 2021

Ian Roland & The Subtown Set release the first single, ‘Nothing Could Grow There’, from a new album they are currently recording. The song was written by Ian during the first COVID 19 pandemic lockdown in the UK in June 2020 and reflects the fear, isolation and concerns for survival felt across the world during that time and still ongoing today. The root causes of the pandemic form the basis of the song: the destruction of the natural world; biodiversity loss; the exponential rise in consumption over recent decades; the fallout from the pandemic in terms of economic hardship, loneliness and separation. It is a cry echoing the cries of all of us and a plea for transformative change to rethink our relationship with nature and each other. It is a plea for the need to move away quickly from the “greed and capitalism” that has brought us to this cliff edge.
